You were picked for the NZ wake team last year to compete in Korea, how was the overall experience? Worlds were probably the best opportunity I’ve had and it was a wicked experience! Yeah? Ha just everything about it was rad! Riding in a different country, seeing and meeting new people, visiting Korea and yeah! Stoked I was given the opportunity to go! Glad I went.

As you’re a year older what division can we expect to see you riding in for the new season, going to give the big boys a run for their money? Yeah hopefully Open Mens I think! I plan on riding alot this season and try go up to next level.

First year enjoying the Uni Expirence hows Wellington treating you? Haha uhhhh Wellington is awesome! Not so much wakeboarding at the moment which isn’t the greatest and I’ve probably been "socializing" a bit much. Uni is going good! Studying a commerce degree. Should be studying right now for an exam tomorrow but I’m procrastinating... haha.

A little birdie told me you and the Blenheim boys had the opportunity to shred with the style master Ben Greenwood last summer, care to share? Ben Greenwood was easily the best riding I’ve watched from the boat (bar David Stubbs...)hah na. It was awesome that Ben made the trip to the south island from Aus to ride with us Blenheim boys it was an awesome day. I’m fairly sure he loved the warm climate here! Also if you thought watching him ride on dvd was cool wait till you see his riding real life.

If you could get one trick under your belt for the season any insight or is it top secret? Ha hmmmmm duno yet, I have a few tricks I'd love to be able to do but don’t want to say in case I cant do them and look a fool! Ha yeah... I’d be happy with anything new though, I’m going to try ride as much as possible, we’ll see what happens.

2010 Waikato Boat Show

2010 Waikato Boat Show went down on the 17th – 19th of October at mystery creek, running from Friday through to Sunday. With weather perfect on Saturday what better place to be, (obviously other than a day riding yourself) spending an afternoon checking out all the latest and greatest gear in wake. To top it off the annual rail jam which takes place during the event, put on by M.I.A. Wakeboarding had a strong presence in the mystery creek arena, with a total of four boats stands displaying the there latest boat line up. Companies on display include Nautique, Mastercraft, Centurion and NZ’s own Skope, which was a stand out displaying their second production boat, which was looking good and competitively priced to boot. Perfect for those looking at an entry boat into the inboard market.

The M.I.A. wakeboarding booth was the last of the wake-orientated displays. Showing a huge range of Ronix and Company wakeboards, with closeout deals on 2010 and whatever 2011 product that has landed on our shores. Although disappointing to just see two board companies supporting the cause, full credit as they certainly held their own with plenty to check out from boards, boots, skates and more. The Rail jam, or shall I say kicker jam consisted of just that a kicker. The absence of a rail or two albeit a little disappointing to the riders, wasn’t the end of the world as the crowd enjoyed the kicker more anyway. The demos attracted good numbers throughout the day, with plenty of people lining the banks to watch the action. For many spectators it was a first time seeing the whole winch aspect of wakeboarding. Saturday’s riding slots had cameos by Jetpilot riders Jamie Burrow, Paul Maguire and Nic Hales the solo skater keeping it real.

Rounded out of course by the M.I.A. crew of Bj Monk and Jimmy Palmer. For many of the riders it was there first shred of the season and a challenging one at that, the short setup into the kicker and an even shorter landing zone made for a challenge. Many of the boys having there fair share of close shaves with the rocks and bridge at some point. Once underway the boys hit their straps and there was an assortment of spins of 3’s, 5’s and the like. Not to mention a number of upside downers to keep the crowds attention, tantrums, frontrolls you name it. Highlights included Jamie Burrow coming close on a switch heelside 7, Bj Monk’s crash of the day putting his knee to his face, drawing blood on a tantrum gone wrong. Trick of the day has to go to Jimmy Palmer for his huge, clean heelside ole’ 5, which I hope to see behind the boat this season hint, hint. Special mention has to go out to all those who put on a display or organised the demo, the wakeboard community thanks you. Without them our presence would have been as strong as waterskiing (almost non existent). Also the boys for getting behind the cause and riding all day, plus Jody for pulling the boys till the end.
